Acting as a student-athlete host is a crucial role in the recruiting process, and therefore appropriate conduct is not only important, but expected.
All Student-Athletes who assist in recruiting must abide by the following:
Division I
- Student-Athletes are responsible to review NCAA rules and St. Lawrence University athletic recruiting policies prior to hosting a prospective student-athlete.
- Student-Athletes must sign the Student Host Reciept form that they have reviewed and understand the rules and policies for prospective visits.Â
- Student Host will discuss academic and recreational activities with head coach prior to recruiting visit.
- Student Host will be aware of prospect's whereabouts throughout visit.
- Student Host will contact head coach (or designated assistant coach) immediately should any incident, question, or concern arise with prospect.
- Prospects are only allowed to attend sanctioned college events.
- Entertainment of prospective student is limited to on campus activities, or within a 30 miles radius of campus. Use of campus vehicles is prohibited.
1. You must be enrolled as a full-time student to act as a host. If you are a first-year student, you must have been a qualifier out of high school
2. You may receive $75/day to entertain a prospect. You may be provided an additional $40/day for each additional prospect you host during that time.
3. You may not give cash to the visiting prospect or anyone else accompanying the prospect.
4. You may not use the entertainment funds to purchase or otherwise provide the prospect with gifts (i.e. souvenirs, clothing, and mementos).
5. You may not use vehicles provided or arranged by a St. Lawrence University employee or booster.
6. You may not transport the prospect or anyone accompanying the prospect more than 30 miles from the campus.
7. You may not allow recruiting conversations to occur, on- or off-campus, between the prospect and a booster or alumnus. If an unplanned meeting occurs, only an exchange of greetings is allowed.
8. You may receive a complimentary meal(s) while accompanying the prospect. Other student-athletes in attendance may not receive a complimentary meal.
9. You may allow the prospect to participate in voluntary activities involving your sport, provided the activity was in no way arranged by or observed by the coaching staff. These activities must occur in facilities that are open to the general student population (i.e. a prospect wouldn't be permitted to utilize the varsity weight room).
10. You may not transport a prospect to an adult entertainment facility or use of escort services, exotic dancers or any other similar services.
11. You may not provide alcohol and other drugs to a prospect.
12. You may not participate in any unethical or illegal activity that violates criminal law or NCAA rules (i.e. provision of drugs or participation in gambling activities).
13. You may not participate in activities (at any location) that may cause a perception of impropriety.
